WOOD YOU GLASS THE PATH?

In September 2015, artists from Ireland, Leeds, Überlingen and Wiltz met in Camphill Dunshane for another art workshop. The idea was to create a pathway, a “diversity pond”, using glass, wood, wire, stones and colour.
For three days, people from Ireland, Korea, Holland, Luxembourg, Germany, France and England – architects, workers, consultants, artists, support workers, people with special needs, … – were working alongside each other to create their own space along the path.
In groups, the participants developed their own vision and creation; they painted, sawed, hammered, constructed and built. Not only artwork came about, but also new connections and friendships. After three days, the work was ready to be presented and celebrated in a round tour and a big party at the bar – “Would you pass the glass?”

Some artists came to KCAT in April 2015 for 3 complete days from Leeds, Ueberlingen and Wiltz.

Some of us got to know them in 2014 in Luxembourg, Leeds and Germany.

I got to know some of them on my first art-trip abroad.

We had a hat-making fun course with them

at KCAT which Saturio Alonso was in charge of. He is Spanish.

I think I liked the showing off of the hats most of all though I enjoyed our meeting on our comments on how it went beforehand.

I hope we can do it again with a new theme as variety is

the spice of life!

My first trip to IRELAND

“Ich freue mich auf die Landschaft, auf das irische Essen und die Menschen dort – am meisten auf die irischen Frauen! Ich will meine Origami-Kunst machen und sehen was so kommt, was es gibt. Ich will einfach kommen und gucken. Auf meiner Reise nach Luxemburg fand ich die Burg sehr schön und das Klettern. Auch die Ausstellung mit den Fotos über Krieg, Freiheit und Frieden war schön. Als die I WANT TO KNOW Gruppen in Deutschland waren haben sich die Iren, Luxemburger und Engländer über meine Kunst gefreut, das war schön. Am Sonntag packe ich meinen Koffer, oder am Montagmorgen. Felix holt mich um 13.30 Uhr ab und dann geht es los.“

In English:
“I look forward to the landscape in Ireland and to the Irish food and the people there – mostly the Irish women! I want to make my origami art and see what comes about. I just want to come and watch. On my IWTK trip to Luxembourg, I found the castle very nice and the climbing activity. The exhibition of photos of war, freedom, and peace was beautiful, too. When the I WANT TO KNOW groups visited us in Germany they were happy about my art, which was nice for me. On Sunday I pack my suitcase, or Monday morning. Felix picks me up at 13.30 clock and then we start!”

My experience in Uberlingen

I think it was fun to meet many

people from some art-centres in

Europe in Germany and not

only KCAT.

It was my third time in Germany

and my second time in Baden-Wurttemberg.

It was my first art-trip abroad.

I am sorry if I don’t know how to make

an umlaut on the laptop but so what

once you know what I mean!

I certainly enjoyed it, at times I found it hard to communicate

with Rosi as she only has a command over

German but limited English and I have a limited

command over German and am Irish and

a native-English speaker.

I can recall that with Felicitas she had a little

more English than Rosi but not that much

and I think we only half-understood each other.

If I wanted Rosi to think I understood her when

I did not I said “Yes” twice in German and I

occasionally told her “Ich nicht verstehen”

when I wanted her to know I could not

understand her.

I in that instance think I need to be much better

at German than I actually am! I enjoyed

meeting them.

Thank you for all the fun at SKID.

I am sure I can agree with Anja that

Elke is a wonderful person.

I hope KCAT can have fun with SKID,

Wiltz, and Leeds in April 2015.

I think that for me the best thing to do

in Uberlingen was to relax by Lake Constance.

I have an incredible memory for our cruise

along it for 70 minutes.

I was not nervous about going to Germany a

third time but I was nervous that it was my

first art-trip abroad.

I think it went incredibly well

and that was all I wanted.

Checklist Leeds

Yesterday, we spent the day to prepare our trip to Leeds. The crew is composed by Carlo Wertheimer, Francis Kirtz, Edy Palm, Emi Martija, Fernand Stumpf, Johnny Schortgen, Simone Schwartz and Didier Scheuren. We talked about the traveling. First by car till Charleroi Airport, than the plane to Manchester and finally the train to Leeds. We will arrive in Leeds around 23h.

We also made the evaluation sheet before the trip, talked about England, Leeds, what will happen during the week. The group is looking forward to see again the old and new friends. We want to know…

Steps towards DADAism

This Thursday’s art work-shop, of the SKIDs group in Bruckfelden (http://www.camphill-bruckfelden.de) Germany, turned around the theme DADAism. Dadaism was an art movement in the early 20th century and is described as “organized irrationality”. We tried that morning to be irrational in our works but stayed quite tame! It is a step daring verbal creations or collages that are absurdly wild and powerful! But the first dares were proudly presented; especially Florians poems impressed the group.

Otherwise our Leeds travel participants gathered around questions like: What do I want to learn about Leeds and the work of Pyramids of Art in England? What do I want to learn about the other participants and about myself in a foreign country?
The four travelers are looking forward to the adventure that is waiting for them in only one week! The rest of the group is keen on welcoming them back and hearing all about it. We will all travel in our minds to meet up in Leeds – what an excitement to think about the groups coming to Germany in October!

Is it long ago/future?

The COOPERATIONS ART team create CHOKELAND : The place is a secret island with a magic chocolate-fall and a big town on the top of the hill. A flying train allows it to travel wherever you want. Lovely fishes are swimming in the chocolate ocean. The weather is good but not to hot.Carlo title is “Eine vollkrase Stadt in Nordamerika” what means “A totally wicked Town in North America”The yellow ship is ready to come to Leeds.

Skype exchange SKID – COOPERATIONS

On Thursday 23th of January, there was a Skype meeting between the artists of COOPERATIONS and SKID. First of all everybody was introduced and than I large exchange about the produced artworks starts over. Some of the COOPERATIONS members were a bit confused about this real time aspect. It was really fun and it also allowed everybody to see what happen on the others studios.

Welcome

Big changes within Pyramid of Arts – Julia handed over all responsibility to James. Welcome James :lol:

Workshop Wiltz

The date for the workshop in Wiltz was changed to : 17-21.02.2014

Vocabulary Selection

The vocabulary-selection will be constituted by the three groups and will include the three languages: English, German, French. The document will be put into the IWTTY drop box.
Symbols that are actually in use within Pyramids of Art will be sent to Elke.

Evaluation

James will work on the evaluation questions again and sends out a proposition to the partners by the end of next week.
Idea-frame: Simple questions – limited number – similar questions to all layers of participants (artists, staff, managers)
analyzing situation before and after a workshop, to center on impacts of the project

Blog/Websiteg

The Website is online. Presentation pages are done. Now the blog has to be set up.
Will continue to work on the IWTK Logo.
